There may be some management, as well technical issues that may create a barrier to the use of quality measures in a healthcare setting. For example, managers in a healthcare organization may not have the necessary knowledge on what they should do with the measures of quality in an organization. Most managers tend to lack the skills needed for the implementation and use of quality measures in an organization. This is despite the fact they may be having some knowledge on how to handle issues such as those related to finance (McLaughlin & Kaluzny, 2006). Managers lack knowledge on how to implement quality measures in a healthcare setting because they do not have the adequate training needed to implement the measures. In most cases, managers in healthcare organizations do not go for training that would enable them implement quality measures with a lot of ease. As a result, the improvement of quality in an organization may become problematic. Managers may also lack knowledge of implementation because they have limited knowledge about the actual delivery of healthcare services to patients. This is compounded by the fact that managers in a healthcare organization do not have a direct link to patients. The second challenge to the implementation of QI and QCI includes the nature of the quality measures, which the organization wishes to implement. This is because most measures of quality in an organization tend to be based on the validity, as well as the reliability that can be placed on such measures.
